Dr. Chenglong Fu
Dr. Chenglong fu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Software and Information Systems at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He obtained Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Temple University from 2016 to 2022, under the supervision of Prof. Xiaojiang Du. Prior to that, He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Information Security from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) from 2011 to 2015. His research interests are in the area of security of Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence (AI) /Machine Learning (ML).
His recent work examines emerging security and privacy risks in smart home Internet of Things platforms. This includes uncovering previously overlooked vulnerabilities such as hidden device attributes, which are configurable through Internet of Things application programming interfaces but remain invisible to end users. These attributes can change device behavior in unexpected ways and create serious security and safety concerns. His research also develops systematic methods to identify hidden attributes across real world devices and creates automated tools that patch Internet of Things edge drivers to address these issues.
