DR. WILLIAM J. TOLONE
William J. Tolone is Associate Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dr. Tolone received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research expertise is in Integrated Modeling and Simulation, Critical Infrastructure Analytics, Visual and Data Analytics, and Collaborative Systems. His scholarship includes 2 patents and 70+ peer-reviewed publications. His research has been supported by competitive funding from NSF, NSA, SPAWAR/USN, ERDC/USACE, NIST, DOT, DHS, DOD and industry, with total extramural funding of over $29M.
Dr. Tolone’s research in integrated modeling and simulation resulted in deployed capabilities for the U.S. Government. Currently, Dr. Tolone leads the Virtual Information Fabric Infrastructure (VIFI) for Data-Driven Decisions from Distributed Data Project – a $4M big data project funded by the NSF Data Infrastructure Building Blocks Program. In addition, Dr. Tolone helped UNC Charlotte receive designation by NSA and DHS as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance / Cyber Defense.
